Well, we made the Elephant Toothpaste today and it was a big hit. I love how all the foam shot up out of the graduated cylinder!! Speaking of "wicked potions"....SNAPE comes to mind. In high school, Snape was considered an "outsider". What is it about him that made it difficult to connect with others?

Make Your Case
Who is the most gifted of all the characters in our poll? By gifted, I mean in any area....flying, academics, wizarding skills, leadership, creativity, etc... Remember, being gifted does not mean you are a whiz kid at everything. Gifted people have their own strengths and weaknesses. I can't wait to hear who you will choose. Don't forget to vote on our new poll.

Favorite DADA Professor
Wow! The poll shows you all REALLY like Remus. Who can blame you? Let's make this a post for all things DADA. You can mention a characteristic about your favorite DADA teacher, or maybe a complaint about your least favorite teacher, or just a DADA observation. Happy Blogging!

It's All In the Name
In the Harry Potter books, JK Rowling uses comparisons to traditional fairy tales, myths or legends. For instance, the dog Fluffy which guards the trapdoor at Hogwarts is like Cerberus, the three-headed dog that guards the underworld of Greek mythology. Can you think of any other links to mythical or legendary characters? (or another language?)

Defend Yourself
Well the results are in. You think the most loyal character is Ronald Weasley by a whopping 52%. :::::applause::::: Neville was not far behind with 20% and Other came in with a not too shabby 16%. Hermione with 4% barely beat out Harry Potter who came in with only 4% of the votes. Now is the time to defend your answer. Why did you vote for the person you voted for? And who are these elusive "Others" that some of you thought were so loyal? I can't wait to find out your reasons.

And the Award goes to.....
In every yearbook there is a section where awards are given for things like Most Likely to Own their own Business, or Most Athletic, or Best Smile or Least Likely to Pass Potions. These are called Senior Superlatives. We are going to have our own version called SORCEROR'S SUPERLATIVES. I would love to hear who YOU think makes the most or least whatever (you fill in the blank).
Click on this link to see a website devoted to every character in the books. You may need a refresher course on some of the more minor characters.

POTTER: ABOVE THE LAW?
In The Sorceror's Stone, Harry was given a direct order from Madam Hooch (thanks Luna) not to fly while she stepped away for a moment. He took off on his broom anyway, which is normally cause for expulsion from the school. In Harry's case though, it brings him the honor of being chosen as the "Seeker" for his Quidditch team. Can you think of any other times in any of the books where Harry's actions lead to the opposite result from what was expected? Is Harry above the law or is he just a lucky guy, or could there be another explanation?
